As most of our attendees and followers have now heard, we had a shooting and tragedy occur at the facility on Saturday night.
The victims are Marcus L. Johnson, 28, and Charles A. Williams Jr., 27, from Omaha. Our deepest condolences go out to their friends and families for the loss that they have experienced.
The car show and racing program started at 10 a.m. and continued throughout the day and into the evening. The people who attended and participated in the event were fantastic. There wasn't a single incident, and the "vibe" that carried on throughout the day was super relaxed and very enjoyable.
The concert portion of the program was held on the south side of the facility in front of the roadcourse grandstands and started around 7:30 pm.
The concert/car show promoter employed more than 20 armed security guards and 10 uniformed officers for the event.
At approximately 9 pm, there was a shooting in the parking lot on the southwest corner of the facility; the shooting was not inside of the concert or the car show areas.
From the reports that we received, the two victims were just walking towards the concert entrance when a vehicle drove up to them, and the vehicle occupants shot the victims from inside of the vehicle; they then drove out of the facility. There were no words exchanged, no arguments, and no warning.
There were deputies within 20 feet of the shooting, and the criminals did not care. We had ambulances on site, so the response times for the victims were immediate.
This senseless crime does not reflect on the innocent people who attended the car show or the concert. It also has nothing to do with the type of cars that attended the promotion.
The crime has everything to do with today's society and the absolute disregard for human life that seems to be so prevalent. Bullets don't care what the color of someone's skin is, and neither do the criminals who carry out their violence.

2 young men lost their lives, and it is absolutely heartbreaking. Please have compassion for their families and put yourselves in their shoes because they are hurting just like you would be at this time.
